Can Swim – 3 Day Infant Water Familiarisation Program

- WHO: This program is for Parents/Caregiver and child aged 6 months to 2 years and 11 months old (cannot accept 3 year olds).
- WHAT: Our infant’s program is 30-minute sessions across 3 days. Targeted towards parent/caregivers and their child, they will participate to learn the fundamentals of water familiarisation and to begin their swimming and water safety journey. Introduction to water safety from a young age is fundamental and helps children’s cognitive, social and physical development in and around aquatic environments. This program equips parents/caregivers with the basic skills and knowledge to practise in their own time and continue to build essential and foundational skills with their child.
- WHERE & WHEN: 3 day program at PARC.
Monday 14, Wednesday 16, and Friday 18 September 2026, commencing at 11:10 am.
- COMMITMENT: 1 x 30minute session, over 3 days. Plus a short survey at the commencement and conclusion of your program.
- COST: Fully subsidised, thanks to the support of our partner Frankston City Council. We ask that you complete a pre and post program survey for us to measure outcomes and skills learnt.

Who is this program for?
Infants and their parent/carer from the Frankston community. This program is designed to introduce infants who to the water in a safe, fun and supportive environment.

When will I find out if I have been successful in gaining a place in the program?
Confirmation of place in the program and specific class will be emailed at least one week prior to the program
What do I do if I cannot attend a class?
If you are unable to attend a class, unfortunately there are no makeup classes available. Please consider your availability before applying, as we encourage attendance at all sessions throughout the program.
Do I need to complete a pre and post survey?
Yes – to be part of this program parents/carers will be required to complete a short pre and post survey.
Do I need to be in the water with my child?
Yes. A parent or carer is required to be in the water with their infant for the entire duration of each lesson. There must be a 1:1 ratio of one parent/carer to one infant. If you are unable to enter the water, your infant will not be able to participate in the lesson.
Can I bring siblings to the lesson?
Yes, siblings are welcome to attend the centre; however, in accordance with our Watch Around Water policy, children under 10 years of age must be actively supervised. As the parent/carer participating in the infant lesson is required to remain in the water with their infant, any sibling under 10 years old who wishes to swim must be accompanied by another supervising adult.
The program covers entry for one infant and one parent/carer only. Standard pool entry fees apply for any siblings attending, and a spectator fee applies for the additional supervising adult.
Do I need to pay anything for the program?
No – this program is fully funded thanks to the support of Frankston City Council. Please obey parking signs within centre carpark and surrounding streets.
What do I need to bring to my swimming class?
- Towel
- Bathers for you and your infant
- Swim nappy (required for all infants, regardless of toilet training status. If needed, swim nappies are available for purchase at the centre.)
- Bag with belongings – lockers will be available for hire to place valuables
