We’re excited to be part of the Victorian Government’s Free Pads and Tampons in Public Places Program, and have two new smart sanitary product installed in our change rooms.
The smart dispensers will provide free access to essential sanitary products for members and guests.
Why this program matters
Access to period products is essential, but for many it’s not always easy. According to a recent Share the Dignity survey, 64% of people who menstruate found it difficult to afford period products in the past 12 months. The survey also found:
- 83% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander respondents reported difficulty affording products
- 21.5% could not afford products at all
- 83% of gender-diverse people and 78% of people with a disability or chronic condition who menstruate experienced affordability challenges
- Lack of access can impact physical health, mental wellbeing, and participation in daily life
- More than half of respondents reported missing out due to their period:
- 56% missed work
- 63% missed school
- 68% missed sport
- Products are dispensed free of charge
- Simply follow the instructions displayed on the front of the machine
- A short delay between dispenses helps ensure fair access and reduces wastage
- The units are connected to a real-time monitoring system that tracks usage and stock levels
- Automatic alerts are triggered when stock runs low, allowing timely replenishment
- The supplier is responsible for regular servicing and maintaining stock availability
