Member Spotlight – Courtney

We wanted to shout out one of our members who has been  smashing her PT sessions with Carol and has found a new love for weight training.

Courtney was an avid cardio class girl but decided to take the plunge and dabble in a little weight training with the professional guidance of a PT. Working together with Carol, one of our loved trainers, she has seen big improvements in her mental and physical wellbeing.

Congratulations Courtney for all your  hard work and being consistent in working towards your goals.

Read Courtney’s full story below.

I’m Courtney and I have been a member at PARC since November 2021. When I first joined PARC I did a lot of gym classes and cardio but was never comfortable or confident to do strength training. In March 2023 I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and signed up to the kickstart PT sessions.

This is where i met my PT, Carol. When I started PT we focused a lot on compound movements, using the big muscle groups. I began to love the challenge of pushing myself (well Carol pushing me) each week, adding tempo to movements and increasing weight over time. I soon developed a love for lifting weights and learnt just how strong my body is. I have been committed since my first session and continue to work with Carol weekly.

Since weight training I have lost 16kg and have huge improvements in my mental health and overall mindset. I now aim for 2 to 3 strength sessions a week, as well as a run and/or game of tennis and I am the fittest I have ever been. I can honestly say taking the plunge to start PT was the best thing I did for myself and I am so looking forward to seeing the next steps in my health journey. Thank you Carol for continuing to challenge me to be the best version of myself!

Carol holds a certification in Training Menopausal and Perimenopausal Women and runs both PT sessions and Small Group training sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

'What does March Forward mean to you?'

As we celebrate UN International Women's Day 2025, we asked some of our Peninsula Leisure Team members what 'March Forward' means to them.

For many, it symbolises the ongoing progress toward gender equality, the strength of women supporting one another, and the commitment to breaking down barriers whether that be in the workplace, at home, or our communities. At Peninsula Leisure, we love to empower women to prioritise their health and fitness in a safe and supportive environment.

So together lets continue to March Forward, as each step taken, brings us closer to a future where everyone, has the opportunity to thrive.
