PARC sets new water safety benchmark with AI drowning prevention technology

Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) in Frankston has taken another major step in aquatic safety and supervision, with the installation of Lynxight, an AI-powered drowning prevention system now live across their main pools.

The cutting-edge technology provides real-time monitoring, risk detection and instant alerts, supporting lifeguards to respond faster to potential incidents. Lynxight has been proven to help lifeguards respond up to six times faster in water safety emergencies, giving our community even greater confidence in the water at PARC.

The system uses CCTV cameras to monitor PARC’s 50m Main Pool, Leisure Pool and Warm Water Pool, with alerts sent directly to lifeguards via smartwatches. This allows Lifeguards to act immediately in those critical seconds when every moment matters.

Peninsula Leisure Operations, Risk, Health & Safety Manager Jarrah Wynne said the introduction of Lynxight is part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to lead the industry in safety.

“We’re proud to be among the first in Australia to introduce this technology to our community. Lynxight gives our lifeguards an extra set of digital eyes, enhancing their ability to keep people safe. Combined with our Lifesaving Victoria Platinum Pool accreditation and recent recognition as Aquatic and Recreation Victoria’s Facility of the Year, it reinforces PARC’s position as a leader in aquatic safety,” Mr Wynne said.

Importantly, Lynxight does not replace lifeguards. Instead, it works alongside them, ensuring patrons always remain under the close supervision of trained professionals. The system does not identify swimmers or record personal data, focusing only on movement patterns to detect signs of distress.

For PARC members and visitors, there will be no change to the way the pool is used. Lynxight operates in the background, adding an invisible but powerful layer of protection. Lifeguards and Duty Managers have received specialist training to ensure the system is seamlessly integrated into daily operations.

“By adding this extra layer of protection, we’re making sure everyone in Frankston can enjoy our pools more safely,” Mr Wynne said.
