Fully subsidised swim programs available to the community

Join a fully subsidised swim program to help us find innovative ways to teach swimming and water safety

Over January and February 2024, Peninsula Leisure are running 3 pilot swim programs to test non-traditional Learn to Swim models. Through these programs we hope to learn more about swimming and water safety skills and knowledge, helping us towards our goal of ‘Every Child in Frankston Can Swim’.

What does that mean for you?

We are running 3 pilot swim programs to test different learn to swim models. Each of these pilot programs is targeted at different audiences: infants, families, youth. The programs are completely free for participants, and also come with access to PARC and PINES for the 2 weeks around the program time. All we ask is that participants complete a survey before their program, then again at the end, so we can see how this method of learning impacts water safety and awareness.

About the Programs:

  • Youth 5 Day Program at PARC: Starting 8 January, 45 minute lesson per day.
  • Family swimming and water safety session at PINES: Friday 19 January, 4.30pm-5.30pm
  • Infant water familiarisation program at PARC over 19, 21and 23 February, at either 8.30am, 11.30am, 4.00pm or 4.30pm. 30 minute lesson per day.

Have you heard of Incidental Exercise? 🧹🚶‍♀️

Incidental exercise is physical activity that occurs naturally as part of your daily routine! It’s the small bursts of activity you accumulate throughout the day, such as carrying in the groceries, or playing with the kids, that helps you achieve your 30-20-2.

Some examples of Incidental Exercise are:
- Doing housework like vacuuming, mopping, or gardening
- Walking up stairs instead of taking elevator or escalator
- Parking further away from your destination to get your steps up
- Walking during lunch breaks, or having a standing meeting

Remember, all movement counts! 🌟

For more information about 30-20-2, or helpful resources and workouts to get you moving, head to our Digital Hub.

Help us ensure PARC is a safe venue for the whole community to enjoy 🏊

At PARC, we participate in the statewide Watch Around Water program. Watch Around Water is an education and public awareness-raising program that defines the minimum supervision requirements for children in a pool setting.

When visiting PARC, your child will be given a coloured wristband, based on their age. These wristbands help our lifeguards identify the level of supervison required for your child, and support a safe aquatic environment for everyone.

Did you know that our vision is that 'Every Child In Frankston Can Swim'? 🌳👶

The Rotary Peninsula 2.0's Birth Tree is one way that's helping us to achieve this vision.

By joining this year’s Birth Tree, you will receive a timeless tribute of your loved one in the form of a tree and plaque. Equally importantly, $45 of every contribution goes straight back to the community to help more children build confidence in the water, with free infant swimming lessons through the Can Swim initiative. 🏊
