Karen and Mandy: Staff spotlight

We are super proud and excited to give a shout out to two of our wonderful PARC swim teachers.

Karen and Mandy are two of our longest serving swim teachers, teaching children to swim at PARC for a massive 8 years!

They have both taught hundreds of infants, children and parents important life saving skills around water, as well as a countless number of children how to swim.

Thank you both for your amazing service to PARC and to all of the babies, children and parents in the Frankston community. We are so lucky and proud to have you both working at PARC!

We caught up with Karen and Mandy in the water to ask them a few questions about themselves and why they love swim teaching so much.

Favourite past time:

Karen: Spending time with family and friends
Mandy: I love watching movies and going out for dinner

What is your favourite part of being a swim teacher?

Karen: I enjoy working with children and seeing them grow and enjoy the benefits of swimming, as well as watching them become confident in the water.
Mandy: I love seeing the children progress and their happy little faces.

What do you love the most about working at PARC?

Karen: It’s a very satisfying and positive place to work. Lots of encouraging people and good teamwork .
Mandy: I love the great atmosphere and the network of friends.

Levels you teach:

Karen: Infants levels, Pufferfish 1, 3, 4 and Tadpoles 1-3
Mandy: Infants and levels 1-2 . Infants are my favourite.

Have you heard of Incidental Exercise? 🧹🚶‍♀️

Incidental exercise is physical activity that occurs naturally as part of your daily routine! It’s the small bursts of activity you accumulate throughout the day, such as carrying in the groceries, or playing with the kids, that helps you achieve your 30-20-2.

Some examples of Incidental Exercise are:
- Doing housework like vacuuming, mopping, or gardening
- Walking up stairs instead of taking elevator or escalator
- Parking further away from your destination to get your steps up
- Walking during lunch breaks, or having a standing meeting

Remember, all movement counts! 🌟

For more information about 30-20-2, or helpful resources and workouts to get you moving, head to our Digital Hub.
How cute it this?! 🦄

Help us ensure PARC is a safe venue for the whole community to enjoy 🏊

At PARC, we participate in the statewide Watch Around Water program. Watch Around Water is an education and public awareness-raising program that defines the minimum supervision requirements for children in a pool setting.

When visiting PARC, your child will be given a coloured wristband, based on their age. These wristbands help our lifeguards identify the level of supervison required for your child, and support a safe aquatic environment for everyone.

Did you know that our vision is that 'Every Child In Frankston Can Swim'? 🌳👶

The Rotary Peninsula 2.0's Birth Tree is one way that's helping us to achieve this vision.

By joining this year’s Birth Tree, you will receive a timeless tribute of your loved one in the form of a tree and plaque. Equally importantly, $45 of every contribution goes straight back to the community to help more children build confidence in the water, with free infant swimming lessons through the Can Swim initiative. 🏊

You can purchase a place for a baby born this year on the Birth Tree here: https://events.humanitix.com/parc-2026-birth-tree-and-family-garden
